Bearden, C. F. “Speedy" Jr. posted July 17, 2008 He was born August 12, 1928 in Etowah, Tn., to the late Mary Sue and Charles Frank Bearden, Sr. He was a World War II Navy veteran and Chief Petty Officer on the USS Duncan, Pacific Theater. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church in Soddy Daisy, VFW Post 1289, Hixson Masonic Lodge #747 and The Eastern Star, American Legion Summer Whitehead Post 14, Chattanooga Area Veterans Council, Commandery #14, Scottish Rite, Highlanders of the Shriner’s Alhambra Temple, Grand Order of the Cootie. Mr. Bearden held several positions: Commander VFW Post 1289, Quarter Master Post 1289 and all other chairs, Tennessee State Commander and all other chairs with the state VFW, Commander and General Elisimo of the Commandery, 33rd degree of the Scottish Rite, Liaison between Chattanooga Area Veterans Council of the Veterans Administration in Washington D.C., Past Chairman of CAVC, leader in the Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts and on the Board of Directors of DuPont Credit Union. Mr. Bearden received several awards: Disabled American Veterans Driver of the Year, Shriner’s Driver of the Year, VFW Veteran of the Year, American Legionnaire of the Year, CAVC Veteran of the year, and Tennessee Colonel By Governor of the State of Tennessee. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Aline Bearden; children, Karen Sue McColpin, of Ooltewah; Charles Frank Bearden, III and his wife Pam Hurst of Ooltewah; Walter Raymond Bearden and his wife, Niki of Soddy-Daisy; Cynthia June Bearden of Hixson; William Russell Bearden and his wife Tracy of Rossville; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the North Chapel with Rev. Ted Painter officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends on Friday and Saturday from 5-8 p.m. both days, at the North Chapel. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Shriner’s Hospital, attention: donations, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Oh. 45229-3095, or the Disabled American Veterans, Chattanooga Chapter, Attention: donations, Lisa Daniel, 6200 Building Eastgate Center, Chattanooga, Tn. 37411.
